What parents want from GPs

What parents want from GP consultation for their child's cough or RTI

The University of Bristol have produced an animation covering some of the issues which GPs and parents consider during consultations. GPs often think the parent is looking for antibiotics while the parent may be looking reassurance and advice. Some useful points are highlighted in the animation.

Parents can also be directed to the “When should I worry” leaflet produced by University of Cardiff. Its use was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial, where it was shown that use of the booklet could result in a two-thirds reduction in antibiotic prescribing without impacting on parental satisfaction.
