Relvar Ellipta packaging changes

We noted in May that fluticasone furoate and vilanterol (Relvar Ellipta®) had been added to the Formulary for COPD. Advisers to ADTC had raised concerns that the colour of the product may lead to some confusion with patients thinking it was a reliever product. Similar concerns had been raised in a number of areas.

The manufacturer has recently announced that the packaging will change from blue to yellow. As well as changing the colour of the inhaler, GSK is improving the legibility of the wording, adding colour flashes to indicate strength (green for the standard dose, red for the higher dose), and adding an area for patients to write the date that the inhaler should be discarded. The new packaging should be available in early 2015.
