National antibiotic prescribing targets achieved

The Scottish Antibiotic Prescribing Group (SAPG) set the following targets for all Scottish healthboards:

≥ 95% of patients should have their antibiotic indication recorded.

≥ 95% of patients should be prescribed an antibiotic as per local guidelines.

NHSGGC was one of only 3 healthboards to achieve both targets.  Data, for 4257 patients admitted to medical receiving wards between April 2011 and March 2014, showed that:

98% (median) of patients had an antibiotic indication documented.

95% (median) of patients had an antibiotic prescribed as per local guidelines.

The Antimicrobial Management Team would like to thank all staff involved in helping to achieve this target.
