Diabetes MCN Key Messages

Concentrated insulins 2015 (higher strength insulin products - > 100units/ml)

The Diabetes Managed Clinical Network is reviewing the place in therapy of diabetes for these products. Until there is an agreed local policy, standard strength insulin from the Formulary should be used in line with the current GGC guidelines

 

Diagnosis of diabetes guideline

The new guidelines for the diagnosis of diabetes have been recently revised and are available on Staffnet. 

 

Staff education

The MCN will be running a diabetes training course aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of diabetes management to non-specialists in primary and secondary care. The course will take place on 11 / 12 November in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.  Topics will include: Diabetes complications and cardiovascular risk management; Diabetic Emergencies and a Case Study review. If there are particular education topics you would like to see covered in the future, please let us know.

The 2014 Scottish Diabetes Survey has now been published.

 

Smoking cessation

 NHSGGC and Diabetes Scotland have produced a diabetes focused smoking cessation patient information leaflet entitled “Smoking with diabetes is life changing, permanently”.  This leaflet can be accessed through usual sources and is available here.
