Creatinine Clearance Calculator

The NHSGGC Creatinine Clearance Calculator for adult patients is now available for desktop users here under the “other links” section. This calculator is designed to assist prescribers when dose regimens require to be based on creatinine clearance (CrCl). This may include in drugs with a narrow safety margin and/or patients at extremes of weight.

Although renal function is routinely reported as eGFR, published information on the effects of renal impairment on drug elimination is usually stated in terms of creatinine clearance which may lead to confusion. Some key messages here provide guidance on how to prescribe for patients with chronic kidney disease.

The NHSGGC “NOAC Prescribing in Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation: Frequently Asked Questions” directs prescribers to the Medicines Complete Creatinine Clearance Calculator. This document is under revision and the revised version will link to the GGC Creatinine Clearance Calculator.
