Anticoagulants and dental procedures

Anticoagulants or antiplatelets for patients undergoing dental procedures

New guidance on the Management of Dental Patients Taking Anticoagulants or Antiplatelet Drugs has been published by NES's Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP). This highlights the need for prescribers and dispensers to remind patients to tell their dentist or hygienist about the drugs they are taking to allow procedures that may cause bleeding to be planned and carried out as safely as possible.  Patient information leaflets for each drug group are also available.
