Adverse Events with Controlled Drugs

The Controlled Drugs Accountable Officers’ (CDAO) Network (Scotland) has recently published a report describing common themes in CD incidents and errors observed in some Scottish Health Board areas.

Four drugs (methadone, morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl/alfentanil) are commonly implicated in adverse events. Improving procedures around the use of these drugs would reduce the likelihood of adverse events and improve patient safety.

One of the roles of the CDAO Network (Scotland) is to gather information about adverse events and concerns involving Controlled Drugs (CDs) in Scotland and share any lessons learned.
