Adult Therapeutics Handbook: Content update July 2017

The Therapeutics Handbook content has now been updated and includes the following main changes:

Infections section:
Guidelines which recommend aztreonam have been updated to include an additional therapeutic choice, temocillin. This change has been necessary due to the ongoing critical shortage of aztreonam. Aztreonam use is being prioritised for patients with Cystic Fibrosis. Please note, previous advice to review choice of gentamicin in frail elderly patients or patients with reduced renal function has been reviewed and amended to give more specific advice based on eGFR.

Endocrine Systems sections:
Within the Management of Hypoglycaemia, the volume of Lucozade® recommended to treat mild hypoglycaemia has changed in response to the introduction of a new Lucozade® formulation.
